The primary mission of the Basic Training Branch is to provide the foundation for new law enforcement officers. The Branch has the main responsibility for the administration of new recruit training.
The eighteen-week Law Enforcement Basic Training academy is an intense learning experience for each student. Present scheduling provides for over three hundred officers each year in the Law Enforcement Basic Training academy. Multiple classes are present throughout the year in varying weeks of training.
Using adult-learning concepts, the DOCJT provides the basis for success for law enforcement officers in a state of the art facility. The Law Enforcement Basic Training residential academy involves many instructional methods. The curriculum is a mentally and physically demanding challenge. Using a multi-faceted approach, recruits receive training in the basic skills needed for today’s law enforcement officer in a disciplined environment, stressing the Basic Training Creed.
Currently the Basic Training Branch is comprised of three sections
DUI Enforcement: Primary responsibility involves training recruit and in-service officers in the area of DUI Enforcement.
General Studies: Primary responsibility involves classroom instruction in patrol and criminal investigation topics.
Evaluation: Primary responsibility involves coordination of Basic Training Law Enforcement recruits.
